Aplicación

Assesses fine motor abilities through static and dynamic tasks for finger, hand and arm movement.
The MLS is a modular test based on Fleishman’s factor analysis of fine motor skills; it assesses six aspects of these skills. Good fine motor skills are needed in many occupations and sports. A nuanced assessment of the various skills is therefore important for suitability assessments in these fields (manufacturing & safety assessments) and for clinical neuropsychological investigations. This test battery yields a wide range of information: accuracy of movement, steadiness/tremor, precision of arm/hand movement, manual dexterity and finger dexterity, speed of arm and hand movements and wrist/finger speed.

Administration of the MLS requires the MLS Work Panel.
The respondent performs a number of different tasks using the work panel. The tasks may be performed with one or both hands.

Evaluación

The ability is assessed separately for the right and left hand for one-handed and two-handed performance. The following variables are scored:

  • Aiming: Measure of eye-hand coordination and the precision of arm-hand movements.
  • Steadiness: Measures a person’s ability to adopt a particular arm/hand position and maintain it with as little change as possible for a relatively long period of time.
  • Line tracing: Precision of arm-hand movements – measure of precise fine motor skills and the precision of information processing.
  • Tapping: Wrist-finger speed – measure of the speed of untargeted movements.
  • Inserting long pins and inserting short pins: Speed of arm-hand movements – measure of eye-hand coordination and the speed of targeted movements.
